Chez Constance is a mountain restaurant and refuge on the Plateau des Glières, in the Haute-Savoie region of France. The building is made of wood and stone, with a large outdoor terrace, rustic furniture, a fireplace inside, and dormitory-style rooms for overnight guests.
Constance and her husband Joseph opened the place in 1974 as a small café-restaurant on their farm on the plateau. The business has since passed through three generations of the same family, with their granddaughter Delphine now carrying on the work.
The restaurant is known for its potato fritters, served crispy on the outside and soft inside, often alongside local cheese and homemade charcuterie. Hikers arriving after a day on the plateau make up a big part of the crowd, giving the place a relaxed, communal feel that regulars come back for.
A reservation is recommended, especially on weekends and during busy seasons when the restaurant fills up quickly. The place is accessible for wheelchair users, and animals are welcome outside on the terrace.
The restaurant stays open through winter, when the nearby cross-country ski trails become active, making it a natural stop after a day on the snow. The menu shifts with the seasons based on what local producers bring in, so the dishes are rarely the same from one visit to the next.
