Montagne des Auges, Mountain summit in Glières-Val-de-Borne, France.

Montagne des Auges is a mountain ridge in Glières-Val-de-Borne that rises to 1822 meters and features a wide limestone crest. The summit sits within the Bornes massif and offers views across a high plateau dotted with alpine chalets.

This peak rises above the Glières plateau, which became important to French fighters during World War II when German forces occupied France. The heights served as a refuge and command point for those organizing resistance operations in the region.

The chalets at the summit show how alpine farming has worked for generations in this region. You can see how herders and farmers use the steep pastures and keep their animals on summer grazing lands.

The climb from the plateau takes roughly an hour and forty minutes and follows clear paths across open alpine meadows. There is little shade on the route, so bringing water and sun protection is important.

On clear days, you can see the entire Mont Blanc massif, the Chablais region, the Lake Geneva basin, and the Jura mountains from the top. This view is especially rewarding in the early morning when valleys are still in shadow.
