Le Buclon, Mountain summit in Glières-Val-de-Borne, France

Le Buclon is a summit of the Bargy chain in the Bornes massif, Haute-Savoie, reaching 2,072 metres. It sits on the ridge between the Pic de Jallouvre to the north-east and the Aiguille Verte to the south-west. Its crown is bare Urgonian limestone, fractured into vertical ribs and blocky ledges above slopes of dry grass and scree.

Le Buclon formed from rock layers dating to the Urgonian and Hauterivian periods, composed primarily of limestone and marl deposits. These ancient sediments shaped the geology of this mountain region over millions of years.

Le Buclon lies on the ridge between the Pic de Jallouvre to the northeast and the Aiguille Verte to the southwest. Hiking trails stay on the mountain's flanks, so walkers pass below the summit rather than on it. The slopes above the Chinaillon and the Samance plateau are the usual ground for local walkers.

The summit itself, made of Urgonian limestone, cannot be reached on foot; hiking trails stay on the mountain's flanks. Walkers therefore keep to the slopes between the Samance plateau and Lake Lessy, below the ridge linking the Pic de Jallouvre to the Aiguille Verte. Plan routes on those flank paths rather than toward the top.
