Casa Rio is one of the oldest restaurants on the river walk in San Antonio. The building sits right by the water, with outdoor tables in bright colors facing the passing boats and shaded by many umbrellas.
Casa Rio opened in 1946 as the first restaurant on the River Walk. The land beneath it was granted by the King of Spain nearly 250 years ago, tying the building to a much older part of the city's past.
A mariachi band has played here for many years, and guests often hear traditional songs while they eat. The colorful umbrellas and river barges passing close by make the meal feel like part of San Antonio's daily street life.
