Tower Life Building, Gothic Revival skyscraper in Downtown San Antonio, United States
The Tower Life Building rises 404 feet with 30 stories, featuring terra cotta and granite materials throughout its eight-sided exterior structure.
Constructed in 1929 as the Smith-Young Tower, this building maintained its position as San Antonio's tallest structure until the Tower of Americas surpassed it in 1968.
The architectural firm Ayres & Ayres incorporated Gothic elements including grotesques and a green Ludowici tile roof into the building's design.
The structure contains 244 residential rental units under development, with the renovation project scheduled for completion in 2026.
Sears opened its first San Antonio store in this building in 1929, where future president Lyndon Johnson's wedding rings were purchased in 1934.
