The Fairmount Hotel is a building in downtown San Antonio built in 1906 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel was founded in 1906 by Veronica Felix and completed in about five months, quickly becoming a significant part of downtown. In 1986, the entire structure was moved approximately six blocks through the city, setting a world record as the largest building ever moved on wheels.
The hotel was originally built to serve traveling salespeople, known as "drummers," who came to the city to conduct business. This purpose still shapes how the place functions today as a gathering point where visitors connect with San Antonio's past.
