Parc Perdicaris, Public park in Rmilat neighborhood, Tangier, Morocco.
Perdicaris is a 70-hectare forest park on the northern slopes of Jebel Kebir hill featuring hundreds of eucalyptus trees, palm varieties, dragon trees, mimosas, and weeping willows. The vegetation spreads across rolling terrain, creating different zones to explore throughout the grounds.
A Greek-American businessman named Ion Perdicaris founded the park in the 1870s and built an eclectic villa as its centerpiece. The estate was later restored and now serves the public.
The restored Château Perdicaris serves as a center for understanding local heritage and nature. Visitors find displays about the region's history and the diverse plant life throughout the grounds.
The park sits between Cape Spartel reserve and Jebel Kebir Royal Palace and remains open throughout the day. Multiple walking paths wind through the grounds and offer views toward the Strait of Gibraltar.
In 1904 the park gained global attention when a local leader named Raisuli kidnapped the owner Ion Perdicaris, prompting military action by the U.S. President. This incident remains one of the most striking international events in the region's history.
