Parc Balsan

Parc Balsan is a public park in Châteauroux that spreads along the Indre River and houses two historic castles set within its grounds. The site is filled with mature trees distributed throughout, creating shaded pathways and open spaces for visitors to explore.

The estate began in the 18th century as a textile manufacturing site established by the D'Aumont family. The riverbank location was chosen to serve the cloth-making industry that shaped the property's original purpose.

The castles display 19th-century neo-gothic design that reflects the region's taste for romantic architecture from that era. Walking through the grounds, visitors encounter these buildings as part of the everyday landscape rather than isolated monuments.

The park is easy to navigate with wide walkways suitable for both pedestrians and cyclists, with natural lighting throughout. Visitors should allow time to explore, as the grounds offer enough space to discover different sections without rushing.

During the first three Fridays of July, farmers market events take place in the park featuring regional products from the Berry region. These gatherings bring local food traditions into the open-air setting and transform the space into a lively meeting point.
