The Estonian History Museum occupies a medieval guild house with stone walls, Gothic arches, and grand halls in central Tallinn.
Founded in 1842 by the Estonian Literary Society, the museum started from a private collection created by Dr Johannes Burchart VIII in 1802.
The museum exhibits Estonian military uniforms, traditional costumes, historical weapons, and artifacts spanning from medieval times through the Soviet period.
The museum opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00 and maintains a collection of over 280,000 historical objects and documents.
The museum complex includes the Forest Brothers resistance bunker and a park displaying monumental Soviet-era sculptures at Maarjamäe Palace.
