Ko Ta Chai

Ko Ta Chai, Island in Phang Nga Province, Thailand

Ko Ta Chai is an island in Phang Nga Province featuring sandy beaches and shallow waters ideal for snorkeling. The coastline is framed by coral reefs that grow close to the shore, creating depth variations that change the water's color throughout the day.

The island became part of Mu Ko Similan National Park in the early 1980s and received protection status. This action aimed to preserve the coral ecosystems and fish populations in the region.

Local fishermen maintain traditional fishing methods around the island, supplying fresh seafood to visitors through small restaurants near the beach.

Reaching the island requires a boat ride of about 1 to 2 hours from the mainland. The best time to visit is during the dry season from October through April, when sea conditions are calmer.

The waters around the island rarely feel crowded, since only small visitor groups are permitted daily. This makes it a quiet place for snorkeling, unlike the more congested islands nearby.
