Curious corner
Curious Corner is a museum with optical illusions and puzzle-filled rooms in Chamarel, in the southwest of Mauritius. The site covers about 5000 square meters and features around 40 exhibits, including a mirror maze, an upside-down room, and the famous Ames room where people appear taller or shorter depending on their position.
The museum was founded in recent years as a project to entertain and surprise visitors. It grew from the idea of creating a place offering tourists a different experience that blends learning with playful interaction.
The place developed from a desire to encourage people to question what they see and think differently about perception. Visitors use the space with family and friends to share laughter over optical effects and capture memories through photographs together.
A visit typically lasts about 90 minutes, and arriving early is recommended. The museum sits directly across from the entrance to the famous Chamarel colored earths, making it easy to combine with other activities in the area.
The Ames room is a masterwork of optical illusion where people appear dramatically taller or shorter depending on their position in the space. This effect is created by the room's trapezoid shape and offers one of the most popular photo opportunities for visitors.
