Playa de Gran Tarajal, Beach in Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura, Spain.
Playa de Gran Tarajal is a black sand beach stretching about 560 meters along the eastern coast, backed by a mountain that rises above the water. The working harbor occupies the northern end, while a developed waterfront with shops and services runs the full length.
The site began as a working fishing harbor and gradually transformed into a coastal destination while keeping its maritime character intact. Today the harbor continues to function as an active commercial port alongside recreational use.
The waterfront remains the heart of the fishing community, where the daily rhythm of boats arriving and departing shapes how locals and visitors experience the place. Fresh seafood restaurants line the shore, sourcing directly from the working harbor.
The beach has showers, restrooms, sunbeds, umbrellas, and plentiful parking along its full length. Lifeguards patrol the water during peak season, and the sandy access points make it easy to reach the waterline.
The mountain directly behind the beach creates a natural windbreak that keeps the water calm and sheltered throughout the year. This protected position is rare along Fuerteventura's typically exposed coastline.
