San Rafael Beach, Coastal beach in Ormoc, Philippines.
San Rafael Beach is a coastal strip along the eastern side of Leyte Island with white sand shores and coconut palms lining the waterfront. The beach extends several kilometers and features shallow, gentle water close to shore.
The beach began as a fishing settlement that grew from the 1950s when the first families arrived on the coast. Over time the community remained rooted in fishing as its main way of life.
The beach serves as a working center for local fishing families who have made it their home for generations. You will see traditional wooden boats and fishing nets scattered along the shore as part of the daily rhythm.
You can reach the beach easily from downtown Ormoc using public transport or a short taxi ride. It is best to visit in the early morning to see the fishermen at work and to avoid the strongest heat.
During low tide, natural rock formations create small pools where you can observe sea creatures up close. These protected pools form temporary habitats that are safe and easy to explore on foot.
