Sandown Street Beach

Sandown Street Beach is a sandy stretch along Melbourne's coastline protected by a breakwater and rock groynes at its northern end. The fenced area provides a defined bathing zone for swimmers and visitors.

The construction of Middle Brighton Pier and its breakwater reshaped this coastal section. These structures altered the shoreline and created the beach's current form.

This off-leash beach has become a gathering place where dog owners from the neighbourhood regularly meet and socialize with their pets. The daily interactions have made it an important community space for local residents.

Access to the beach is from 7 Sandown Street, where paid parking is available during daytime hours. The parking area near Middle Brighton Baths provides convenient options for visitors.

The beach has a triangular sand formation with contrasting features on each side: seaweed collects along the eastern shore while the western section remains clearer. This natural division results from local water currents and the position of the breakwater.
