Plage du Grazel, Beach in Gruissan, southern France
Plage du Grazel is a sandy beach in the heart of the coastal town of Gruissan, located next to the marina. The sand is fine and grey, the water gets deep gradually, and the Île aux Oiseaux sits just across the water.
Gruissan is one of the oldest coastal settlements in the region, and the area around the harbour was long used by fishing communities. The beach itself was later built up with artificial sand as the town developed its seaside appeal.
The beach sits right next to the marina of Gruissan, surrounded by small shops, cafés, and moored boats that give it a lively village feel. Locals often come early in the morning for a walk or a run, while the rest of the day belongs to families and visitors.
The beach is well equipped with showers, toilets, a lifeguard post and an accessible entry point for people with reduced mobility. Dogs are allowed at the far end of the beach, toward Plage de Mateille.
Plage du Grazel is the only town beach in Gruissan, meaning it is the only one you can reach on foot directly from the village centre. Despite the wind that often blows through the area, it almost always flies a green flag, indicating safe swimming conditions.
