The site was originally known as Plage des Fous in the early 1800s, serving as a therapeutic bathing spot. It transformed into a sought-after resort destination after imperial visits brought international attention to the area.
The beach became fashionable among European nobility in the 1800s, particularly after Empress Eugénie started visiting regularly. This royal connection shaped the area's refined character that still marks it today.
Visitors can rent loungers and umbrellas at the beach or use the open sand freely. Lifeguard stations are present during swimming season, with showers and restrooms available at points along the shoreline.
At the northern end of the beach stands Hotel du Palais, originally built as a summer residence for the Empress. The building today gives visitors a glimpse into Belle Epoque architecture and remains a defining landmark of the area.
