Praia de Pego Fundo, River beach in Alcoutim e Pereiro, Portugal.
Praia de Pego Fundo is a river beach in Alcoutim e Pereiro situated along the Ribeira de Cadavais, stretching for several dozen meters with fine sand and natural surroundings. Palm-thatched umbrellas dot the shoreline to provide shade for swimmers.
The beach received the Blue Flag award in 2003, becoming the first and only river beach in Portugal to achieve this environmental and safety distinction. This recognition highlighted the quality standards maintained at the location.
Local traditions include the annual Alcoutim Handicraft and Ethnography Fair held in June, which celebrates regional culture and promotes traditional crafts alongside recreational activities at the beach.
The location is open year-round with lifeguard supervision from June through September during peak swimming season. Parking, restrooms, showers, and first aid stations are available for visitors.
Water renewal from the Alcoutim reservoir happens daily, bringing temperatures to around 28°C in summer and creating ideal swimming conditions for an inland location. This constant circulation keeps the water pleasant during warm months.
