Praia de Pego Fundo

This freshwater beach extends over 50 meters along the Ribeira de Cadavais riverbank, featuring fine sand shores surrounded by natural vegetation and palm-thatched umbrellas providing shade for visitors.

The beach gained recognition in 2003 when it became the first and only river beach in Portugal to receive the Blue Flag award for environmental quality and safety standards.

Local traditions include the annual Alcoutim Handicraft and Ethnography Fair held in June, which celebrates regional culture and promotes traditional crafts alongside recreational activities at the beach.

The facility operates year-round with lifeguard supervision during bathing season from June to September, offering accessible parking for 30 vehicles, restrooms, showers, and first aid services.

Water temperatures reach up to 28°C during summer months due to the daily water renewal system from the Alcoutim reservoir, creating ideal swimming conditions in an inland location.
