Zarauzko hondartza

Zarauzko hondartza is a sand beach on the Basque Coast that stretches for kilometers between mountains and the Cantabrian Sea. The shore features wide sandy areas with ten different access points that distribute visitors across various sections.

The local surfing culture arrived in 1960 when visitors from California brought board riding to this northern Spanish coastal region. Since then, this water sport has become a significant part of the place's identity.

The waterfront promenade displays sculptures by regional artists that reflect elements of Basque heritage and everyday life. These works shape the character of the space and tell stories about how local people connect with the sea.

The various entry points allow you to explore the beach flexibly depending on the time of day and crowd levels. Pay attention to tide times, as these affect the available sand area and conditions for swimming or surfing.

A separate section at the western end of the beach is reserved for naturists and sits next to the Mollarri coastal path. This location makes it easy to move between different beach experiences.
