Palamutbükü Plajı, Beach in Datça, Muğla, Turkey
Palamutbükü Plajı is a sandy beach on the coast of Datça, in the province of Muğla, Turkey. It sits between the villages of Cumalı and Yaka, framed by pine forests, and includes a small harbor with traditional fishing boats.
The area around Palamutbükü lies close to ancient Knidos, a Greco-Roman city once known for trade and scholarship. Over time, the surrounding coast evolved into a fishing settlement whose identity was shaped by the sea and the seasonal catches that gave the place its name.
The name of the beach comes from the palamut, a fish common in these waters and long familiar to local fishermen. Every September, a local festival brings together music, regional food, and handmade crafts, giving visitors a chance to experience the everyday culture of the area.
The beach is reachable from Datça by car or local minibus toward Kızıltan, with a short walk or taxi ride from there. The busiest months run from May to October, but the beach stays open year-round and is much quieter outside that window.
The small harbor at Palamutbükü allows visitors to buy freshly caught fish directly from the boats, something that has become rare at many Turkish beach towns. Its closeness to lesser-visited coves like Kurubük and Akvaryum Plajı means several quiet beaches can be explored in a single day on foot.
