The 100-yard waterfront area includes shallow and deep sections with supervision from certified lifeguards during summer swimming hours at Jamesville Beach Park.
The Jamesville Reservoir, connected to the beach, was created by damming Butternut Creek to supply water for the Erie Canal operations.

The reservoir maintains a population of tiger muskies through annual stocking of 1,150 fish, creating specific fishing opportunities in the adjacent waters.
