Big River Beach

Located at the convergence of Big River and the Pacific Ocean, this sandy beach extends along the California coastline with forested cliffs as backdrop.

Native American tribes inhabited the surrounding region before European settlers established themselves in the area during the nineteenth century.

The beach forms part of Mendocino Headlands State Park, providing opportunities for nature observation, particularly of marine mammals and coastal birds.

Visitors can access the beach through two routes: from Mendocino village behind the Presbyterian Church or via the parking lot south of town.

The beach features a dynamic environment where tidal patterns create temporary lagoons and sandbar islands that transform throughout the year.
