The area came under the Department of Recreation and Sports control in the early 2000s to develop public recreational facilities for local residents. This takeover shifted the focus toward establishing the location as a community recreation area.
Food vendors positioned around the shoreline offer traditional Puerto Rican snacks such as alcapurrias and bacalaitos that reflect local food traditions.
The beach has restroom facilities and outdoor exercise equipment available, with multiple entry points accessible from Ashford Avenue via marked pathways. Visitors can easily navigate different sections using the waterfront promenade.
An open-air fitness center installed in 2014 allows beachgoers to combine strength training with swimming in the protected waters. This merging of gym and beach facilities creates an unusual setup for coastal areas.
