Wicküler City, Shopping centre in Wuppertal, Germany
Wicküler City is a shopping and office complex in the Unterbarmen district of Wuppertal, Germany. It consists of three connected buildings with a total of 30 units across six levels, offering retail spaces, offices, and parking.
The northern building was erected in 1916 as the headquarters of the Wicküler-Küpper brewery. After the brewery moved away in the 1990s, the site was transformed into a retail centre, and in 2014 it was renamed Wicküler City after a major renovation.
The name Wicküler comes from the brewery that once stood here, and a copper fountain made from brewing kettles now sits on the square in front of the electronics store. Inside, light panels show old views of the brewery and the city, keeping a link to the site's past.
The complex is split by a railway line, but a covered footbridge links the northern and southern buildings, so you can move between them without going outside. Parking is available in several garages, and the layout is easy to navigate with clear signs.
The complex is one of the stops on the NRW football route, a cycling trail that links cities with well-known football clubs. Also, a solar array on the roof now generates enough power to supply the entire building, with surplus fed into the local grid.
