Gryfosław

Gryfosław is a bronze statue of a dwarf seated while studying an old book, positioned near the Market Square entrance. The sculpture displays fine details in its facial features and clothing folds, characteristic of the craftsmanship found throughout this collection.

The figure originated in the 1980s as part of the Orange Alternative movement, which used dwarf imagery to protest communist censorship. After the fall of communism, most statues were renewed and permanently established throughout the city in the 1990s.

The statue is one of more than 300 bronze dwarfs scattered across the city since the 1990s. These sculptures have become a defining feature of Wrocław that locals and visitors regularly photograph and track down.

Visitors can locate this statue using dwarf maps available at tourist information centers and local bookstores throughout the city. Since it sits near the central Market Square, it is easily reachable on foot and can be visited without difficulty while walking through the Old Town.
