Van Eyck Swimming Pool is a public swimming facility in Ghent featuring art deco interior design with detailed architectural elements from its original construction. The building contains a 25-meter pool for recreational and lap swimming.
Built in 1886, it is Belgium's oldest indoor swimming pool, originally open only during summer months for local residents. It later developed into a year-round recreational facility for the community.
The basement continues to serve as a public bathhouse with washing facilities for people without private bathrooms at home. This function connects the building to a long-standing tradition of communal bathing in the city.
The facility is easy to locate, situated next to the marina with clear visibility from the water. Visitors should bring their own swim items, as rental options are limited.
The Au Bain lounge bar on the first floor offers simultaneous views of both swimming activities and the harbor, making it an unusual meeting point. Visitors can watch the water action while relaxing with a drink.
