Mirador San Miguel Alto

Mirador San Miguel Alto is a viewpoint perched on a hilltop above Sacromonte, overlooking the city of Granada, the Alhambra palace, the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the Albaicín district. Located at roughly 700 meters elevation, it commands wide views across the region in all directions.

A small hermitage was built in 1673 on the foundations of ancient fortification walls, but French troops destroyed it during a military campaign in 1819. The structure was later rebuilt, restoring the landmark that crowns the hilltop.

The cave dwellings around the viewpoint reflect how people here have lived for generations, maintaining their connection to local traditions through everyday gatherings and performances. Flamenco remains part of the community's social life, visible in the spaces where neighbors meet and celebrate.

You can reach this viewpoint by following marked paths from Sacromonte neighborhood or by driving to the parking area near the top. The best time to visit is early morning when visibility is clearest and temperatures remain comfortable.

A spring called Aceituno sits behind the hermitage, providing water to visitors and local residents alike. This natural water source has served the community for generations, though many people pass by without realizing its importance.
