Ler Devagar is a bookshop in the LX Factory complex in Alcântara spread across three floors of a restored industrial building. The shelves reach from floor to ceiling and hold Portuguese and international literature in multiple languages.
The building dates from the 19th century as a textile factory that operated until 1917. It was later transformed into part of the LX Factory cultural center.
The space hosts readings and book presentations where visitors meet authors from Portugal and elsewhere. These events create a gathering place for literary exchange and community connection.
The shop is spread across multiple floors connected by stairs and corridors, so allow time to explore the different sections. Staff speaking several languages are available to help you find what you are looking for.
A large mechanical flying bicycle sculpture hangs from the ceiling creating a surreal sight amid the books. An original printing press from the building's industrial past also stands as an art object in the space.
