LXFactory, Creative hub in Alcântara, Portugal
LXFactory is an industrial complex with restaurants, design studios, art galleries, boutiques, and workspaces situated beneath the 25th of April Bridge in Lisbon. The site mixes commercial spaces with creative studios in a cluster of restored buildings.
The site dates to 1846 as a manufacturing facility with different production functions. Over time it shifted away from industrial use toward creative and cultural functions while keeping its original buildings.
The place has become a hub where local artists and designers work in studios and galleries that are open to visitors. You can watch craftspeople at work and see their creations being made in real time.
The site is best explored on foot, as the paths between studios, cafes, and galleries are close together and form a natural walking route. Visiting on Sunday adds a flea market with vintage items, vinyl records, and handmade goods.
One of the on-site restaurants houses a patisserie making a handcrafted chocolate cake with layered cocoa varieties that draws people from across the city. This dessert is popular enough to be a reason alone for visiting.
