Under SXM, Underwater sculpture park in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten.
Under SXM is an underwater sculpture park off the coast of Philipsburg with roughly 300 artworks placed at about 5 meters depth. The figures form an artificial habitat where fish and other marine life settle and create new ecosystems.
The park was founded in the 2020s as a combination of artistic expression and ocean conservation. It gained recognition as a new attraction and serves to restore and protect local reef areas.
The figures represent community members and show cultural moments like Taino warriors, traditional dancers, and calypso singers. They tell stories of Sint Maarten that visitors discover beneath the water.
The park is only accessible by boat, and several resorts offer access to it, such as Divi Little Bay Resort and Simpson Bay Resort. Visitors should have basic swimming skills and expect the best visibility in calm water and moderate conditions.
Seven blue artworks from the underwater collection stand on land at different spots around the island. They connect the marine park with places visitors can also explore on the surface.
