The ventilation shaft is a cylindrical concrete tower painted white and blue to resemble the R2-D2 robot from Star Wars. The markings and panels follow the design of the film character, giving the technical structure a playful appearance.
The shaft was built during the Cold War as part of a civil defense system for underground shelters in Prague. Artists repainted it in 2017, turning it into street art with a film theme.
Local artists Petr Cífka and Filip Brouk transformed this structure into street art in 2017.
The shaft stands in Folimanka Park in the Vinohrady district and is visible around the clock. Tram lines stop nearby, and the park offers green spaces for walking and resting.
The ventilation system still works and supplies fresh air to the old shelter facilities, while drawing daily visitors for photographs. The shaft shows how plain infrastructure gains new meaning through art.
