Z vlastního rozhodnutí, Installation artwork and streetlight in Vinohrady, Prague, Czech Republic.
Z vlastního rozhodnutí is an art installation combined with a working streetlight, placed at the corner of Legerova and Vinarská streets in the Vinohrady neighborhood of Prague. The piece takes the form of a single upright pole that looks like an ordinary city light at first glance, but its shape and proportions set it apart from the standard street furniture around it.
The installation was created in 2011 as part of Prague's growing interest in placing art within everyday urban settings. It appeared during a period when the city was beginning to support more projects that treated public infrastructure as a space for artistic expression.
The name Z vlastního rozhodnutí translates to "By Own Decision," a phrase that invites passersby to pause and reflect on the work's presence in a public space. The title gives the object a sense of agency, as if the light itself had chosen to stand there.
The work stands at a busy street corner and can be seen from all sides as you walk around it. Visiting after dark is worth the effort, since the piece is fully lit at night and reads quite differently than it does in daylight.
Although the work looks like a completely ordinary street pole, it is officially part of Prague's city lighting network. This means the city maintains and operates it technically, just like any other light pole in public space.
