Poetry jukebox in Park Folimanka, Audio poetry installation in Park Folimanka, Vinohrady, Czech Republic.
The Poetry Jukebox in Park Folimanka is an audio installation that plays recorded poems through a speaker system and operates via a simple button interface. The device stands approximately 180 centimeters (6 feet) tall with a steel frame, concrete base, and LED indicators showing which poems are available to hear.
This installation is part of a network of poetry devices that began in Prague in 2015 as an urban revival initiative. The project was started by artist Ondřej Kobza to bring poetry into public spaces and make literature accessible to everyone.
The installation presents recorded poems that explore contemporary themes and bring poetry into public spaces as an art form for everyone. Visitors encounter literature naturally while moving through the park, making verses part of daily surroundings rather than confined to indoor settings.
Visitors simply press a button to select and listen to a poem through the speaker system. The installation is built to withstand outdoor weather and works reliably in most conditions.
The device combines vintage design elements inspired by megaphones and gramophones with modern Arduino technology to deliver poetry outdoors. This blend of old-fashioned appearance and contemporary electronics creates an unexpected way to encounter verse in a public park.
