Administrative building of Vojenské stavby, Administrative structure in Nové Město, Czech Republic
The Administrative building of Vojenské stavby is an office structure in Prague's New Town located near the Nusle Bridge. The construction combines brutalist design principles with contemporary features, visible in its metal exterior cladding and retractable sun protection systems.
Construction of the structure began in 1973 and finished in 1982, replacing a 19th-century residential building that had to make way for metro expansion. The project was part of Prague's major infrastructure development during that period.
The building received second place recognition in the Realization category during the national rounds of the Architectural Work Review for 1982-1983.
The building stands on Boženy Němcové Street with direct metro access directly underneath. The location is easily reached by public transport and well integrated into Prague's transit system.
The building contains specialized rubber damping devices in its foundation to reduce vibrations from metro trains passing through tunnels directly below. This engineering solution was necessary to maintain stability of the office structure during subway operations.
