Mirador del castillo, Scenic viewpoint at Castle Santa Bárbara in Alicante, Spain.
The Mirador del Castillo provides spectacular panoramic views of Alicante city, the Mediterranean port and the Spanish coastline from an elevation of 167 meters atop Mount Benacantil.
Built in the 9th century by the Muslims, Castle Santa Bárbara served as a military fortress for centuries, being modified and reinforced by different cultures that occupied the Iberian Peninsula.
The castle now houses museums and exhibitions that tell the story of Alicante, with guided tours detailing the battles, sieges and historical figures who inhabited this medieval fortress.
Access to the viewpoint is free and can be done on foot via marked trails, by car or by elevator from Postiguet Beach, with facilities adapted for people with reduced mobility.
On clear days, visitors can observe Tabarca Island in the distance, as well as other coastal points in the province like Jávea and Torrevieja from this privileged observation point.
