The Baumwipfelpfad Bad Iburg extends 439 meters through the forest canopy at heights of up to 28 meters above ground level, featuring barrier-free access via elevators to three different observation platforms constructed from 600 tons of steel and 250 cubic meters of wood.
The canopy walkway opened during the 2018 State Garden Show and was developed as part of the UNESCO Global Geopark TERRA.vita, incorporating educational stations that explain the geological history of the Teutoburg Forest and the region's ancient rock formations.
The walkway offers more than 30 interactive stations teaching visitors about regional flora, fauna, geology, and natural history, while special events include guided tours, nature workshops, and evening programs featuring tapas dining experiences among the treetops.
The facility operates daily from 10:00 to 18:00 from March to October, weekends only in November and December, with adult tickets costing 7.90 euros, children 4.50 euros, and free admission for children under six years old.
The walkway features an innovative mobile canopy bar serving refreshments at tree level and provides views of 250-year-old oak trees with trunk diameters exceeding one meter, alongside panoramic vistas of Bad Iburg Castle and the surrounding forest landscape.
