Garðar BA 64, Historic shipwreck in Vesturbyggð, Iceland.

Garðar BA 64 stands as a rusting steel vessel on the shoreline of Patreksfjörður, its red-painted hull weathered by decades of Atlantic storms and coastal erosion.

Originally launched in Norway in 1912 as Globe IV, this whaling vessel served various nations before arriving in Iceland in 1950 and being renamed Garðar BA 64.

The ship represents Iceland's maritime heritage and the transition from traditional fishing methods to modern steel vessels that could withstand harsh Arctic conditions.

Visitors can reach the wreck by driving 17 kilometers south from Patreksfjörður on Route 62, then taking Road 612 directly to the coastal parking area.

Unlike traditional shipwrecks caused by storms or accidents, Garðar BA 64 was deliberately placed on shore in 1981 when deemed unsafe for operation.
