Jardin Doret
Jardin Doret is a park in Vevey located along the Veveyse riverbank with grassy areas and trees for relaxation and shade. The grounds include a paddling pool for children, playgrounds with swings and slides, picnic tables, grills for outdoor cooking, and a small refreshment bar.
The park has been part of Vevey for many years, reflecting the town's long connection to the water. Recently authorities planned to replace the aging paddling pool with a modern water play area designed with current safety standards in mind.
The name Jardin Doret comes from a family of stonemasons and sculptors from the canton of Neuchatel who settled in Vevey in the 1700s and shaped the city through their stone work. Today the park serves as a gathering place where locals meet friends, children play, and people enjoy the simple natural surroundings.
The park is accessible by public transportation with buses and trains stopping nearby on Chemin de la Riviera, and parking is available for those arriving by car. Toilets, showers, and changing facilities are provided for visitors spending extended time here.
A design competition in fall 2022 gathered ideas for a new water area, and the selected project called 'My Precious' will reference the region's history by incorporating elements of the old Veveyse river mouth and the rocky Parc d'Arabie terrain. The new design will also create a sloped area leading to the lake shore to reconnect visitors with the water.
