Le Chemin Des Etoiles

Le Chemin des Étoiles is a walkway along the Festival Palace featuring over 450 embedded handprints and signatures from film stars set in cement slabs. This pathway spans several hundred feet and documents achievers from many countries across cinema history.

The handprint tradition at this location began in the 1970s and was later organized into a formal project. Since then, new impressions from prominent industry members are added during each film festival.

The name references cinema's importance to the city, and visitors encounter actors from around the world in this space. The placement along the Festival Palace grounds shows how deeply film and Cannes are connected.

The walkway runs along the festival grounds on a flat, easy-to-navigate surface accessible year-round. Visitors can stroll through freely and photograph the impressions at their own pace.

Many of the handprints include handwritten messages or personal quotes that each artist adds themselves. These individual words make each impression into something personal that goes beyond a simple signature.
