Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, Convention center on Boulevard de la Croisette, Cannes, France
Palais des Festivals et des Congrès is a convention center on Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes with exhibition spaces, auditoriums, and screening rooms. The building contains a large auditorium area and several conference halls used for international gatherings and film presentations.
The current building opened in 1982, replacing the first structure from 1949. An expansion with additional rooms and spaces followed in the late 1990s.
The venue draws filmmakers from around the world each May, who present their latest work and compete for the golden palm. On the steps at the entrance, photographers capture those images that appear in magazines and newspapers worldwide.
The complex sits directly on the waterfront promenade and is reachable on foot from the city center. Multiple entrances provide access to the different levels, and ramps help with orientation inside.
The red steps at the main entrance count 24 stairs and are covered with a long carpet during the festival. At the top, they lead to the large hall named after the Lumière brothers.
