Jasper SkyTram, Aerial tramway in the Municipality of Jasper, Canada.
The Jasper SkyTram is an aerial tramway that carries passengers from a lower station to a mountain peak, gaining nearly 1,200 meters in elevation over the course of the journey. Large windows line the cabin to allow views throughout the approximately seven-minute ascent.
The tramway opened in 1964 and became one of the longest systems of its kind in Canada. Its design used a single main support tower, which represented an innovative approach for mountain cable systems at that time.
The ride serves both locals and visitors as a casual way to experience the surrounding mountains without a long hike. The upper station has become a gathering place where people pause to take in the landscape and enjoy the elevated perspective it offers.
The tramway is easiest to reach via parking areas near the main highway, from where visitors can walk or use shuttle buses to get to the station. The upper area includes walking paths and rest areas where you can sit and take in the surroundings.
On select evenings, visitors can book special nighttime experiences that combine stargazing and dining on the mountain summit. These events pair astronomical observation with meals served at high altitude.
