Ermita de San Bartolomé

The San Bartolomé hermitage stands on a natural elevation providing panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes of Biescas, featuring a simple structure with a main nave and small bell tower that showcase traditional 17th-century construction techniques.

Built at the beginning of the 10th century, this hermitage represents the oldest building in the Serrablo Route and was declared a Cultural Heritage Site in 1982, ensuring its protection and preservation for future generations.

The hermitage forms an integral part of Biescas' intangible heritage, keeping alive local religious traditions particularly during the celebration of Saint Bartholomew's Day on August 24, when neighboring communities participate in traditional processions.

Access to the hermitage is achieved through marked trails with yellow metal signs from Biescas town center, with visits recommended during spring and summer months when weather conditions favor hiking activities.

Its bell tower is considered one of the most beautiful among the collection of Romanesque churches in the region, perfectly reflecting rural Romanesque architecture with robust walls and modest ornamental details focused on functionality.
