Mirador de Cala Llimpa, Scenic viewpoint in Maó, Menorca, Spain
Mirador de Cala Llimpa is a scenic viewpoint in Maó, on the island of Menorca, overlooking the cove of Cala Llimpa, the lagoon of Albufera d'Es Grau, and the open sea. The route leading to it also passes two other observation points, the D'en Biel observatory and the Ses Puntes viewpoint, both offering broad views over Sa Gola and the coastline.
The coast around Cala Llimpa has long been used by fishing communities and local villages living along the shores of Menorca. The designation of the surrounding area as a protected reserve has kept the land largely unchanged, so the landscape today still looks much as it did for centuries.
The area around Mirador de Cala Llimpa is part of a protected reserve that belongs to the Menorca Biosphere Reserve. Birdwatchers make regular visits, especially in autumn and winter, when migratory birds stop to feed and rest near the lagoon of Albufera d'Es Grau.
The starting point is a small parking area near the visitor center, where a marked trail with red signs leads directly to the viewpoint. The ground is rocky and uneven in places, so sturdy shoes are a good idea, and because there is little shade along the way, visiting in the cooler hours of the morning or evening is more comfortable.
Along the trail there is a small bird-watching shelter built specifically for nature observation. From inside it, visitors can watch birds passing by without disturbing them, which makes the experience noticeably different from an ordinary walk.
