Logan Shoals Vista Point
Logan Shoals Vista Point is a scenic overlook on the east shore of Lake Tahoe with unobstructed views across the water and surrounding mountain landscape. The location features paved walkways, stone benches, and a simple trail descending to the water with about 175 feet (53 meters) of elevation change.
The area was shaped by glaciers long ago, leaving traces in the rocks and landforms that tell a story of natural transformation. The region has never been densely populated but has always served as a quiet viewpoint for those seeking connection with the landscape.
The name Logan Shoals comes from Robert Logan, who operated a small hotel in the area during the 1860s. Visitors today use this spot to pause and take in the expanse of the lake, continuing a tradition of valuing the viewpoint as a place of quiet reflection.
The parking area is free and located directly off Highway 50, easy to access with space for several vehicles. Visitors should prepare for changing weather, bring adequate water and supplies, and stay on marked paths, especially on steep or sandy sections where footing can be uncertain.
The name comes from Robert Logan, who operated a small hotel in the area during the 1860s and shaped the location as a stopping place for travelers. The word Shoal refers to shallow water areas or sandbars that can be dangerous for boats, connecting the name to the lake's early boating history.
