Statue du Comte de Montalivet, Statue in Valence, France

The Statue du Comte de Montalivet is a stone monument on Boulevard d'Alsace in Valence, France. It depicts Jean-Pierre Bachasson, the Count of Montalivet, standing upright on a solid base in a solemn pose.

Jean-Pierre Bachasson served as mayor of Valence in the late 18th century and later became Napoleon's minister of the interior. The city commissioned the statue in 1867, sculptor Gustave Crauk created it, and it was officially unveiled in 1895.

The statue stands on Boulevard d'Alsace, where it is part of everyday foot traffic rather than a dedicated monument square. A plaque on the base gives a short account of the count's life, making the stop informative for anyone who pauses to read it.

The statue is on Boulevard d'Alsace and can be reached on foot, by bike, or by car without any difficulty. A short stop is enough to view the sculpture and read the inscription on the base.

A copy of the statue exists near Sancerre in the Cher department, on the estate that once belonged to the count's son. Gustave Crauk exhibited the work at the 1878 Paris World's Fair before it was installed in Valence.
