Casiodoro de Reina is a commemorative bust in Santiponce, Spain, dedicated to the 16th-century Protestant reformer of the same name. The bronze figure shows him holding an open Bible and stands on a granite base.
Casiodoro de Reina entered the monastery of San Isidoro del Campo in Santiponce in the 16th century, but was forced to flee the Spanish Inquisition. During his exile, he translated the Bible into Spanish, a work known as the Biblia del Oso. The monument was unveiled in October 2020.
The monument stands outdoors in Santiponce and can be visited at any time. A visit pairs naturally with a stop at the nearby monastery of San Isidoro del Campo.
This monument is the first in Spain dedicated to a Protestant, making it a rare marker of religious plurality in the country. The base bears an inscription that honors not only Casiodoro but all translators of the Bible into Spanish.
