Schlesischer Busch, Heritage park and Cold War watchtower in Treptow-Köpenick, Berlin, Germany.

The park spans 4.4 hectares with landscaped pathways, mature oak trees, and open lawns surrounding a preserved four-story border observation tower from the Cold War era.

Originally part of the Niederwald forest until the 19th century, the area became a fortified border zone in 1974 with watchtowers monitoring the Berlin Wall division.

The site hosts contemporary art exhibitions and cultural programs that explore themes of division, memory, and resistance through artist residencies and educational tours.

Located at Am Flutgraben 1 in postal code 12435, the wheelchair-accessible park offers guided tours during summer months and connects to public transportation routes.

One of only three remaining border watchtowers in Berlin, it was occupied by artist Kalle Winkler in 1990 and transformed into a museum for forbidden art.

Tracing the Berlin Wall: Remnants, Memorials, and Historical Sites to Explore

More than thirty years after its fall, the Berlin Wall still marks the city. Between the districts of Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, and Friedrichshain, traces of concrete, watchtowers, and commemorative plaques tell the story of a people's and a capital's division. Entire segments have been preserved, others transformed into memorial sites or artworks, such as at the East Side Gallery. Along the old border lines, museums and parks bring these historical remnants back to life: Checkpoint Charlie, Bernauer Straße, the Topography of Terror, and Mauerpark. Each site holds a particular silence, reflecting a time that Berlin does not erase but faces squarely. These locations invite understanding, feeling, and sometimes just remembering.
