Rám-szakadék

Rám-szakadék is a narrow gorge in the Visegrád Mountains with steep rock walls that reach up to 35 meters in height at certain points. Water flows through the canyon, creating slippery surfaces especially after rainfall or during snowmelt.

The gorge formed long ago through volcanic activity and was shaped over millennia by flowing water. Developments in 2005 led to the installation of ladders, handrails, and rest spots to make access safer for visitors.

The name Rám-szakadék refers to the tight gorge that cuts through the landscape like a natural crack. Visitors experience a strong connection to the raw power of nature here, where people pause to listen to the water sounds and observe how the canyon shapes the rhythm of movement through the terrain.

The trail is only passable in one direction, starting from Dömös and going uphill, as descending through the gorge would be too dangerous. Solid footwear with good grip is essential, and visit in dry conditions to minimize slipping hazards.

The gorge forces hikers to walk in only one direction, not back down through the same route they came up. This one-way rule protects visitors from the added dangers of descending on the slippery and narrow terrain.
