Mandarake Complex
Mandarake Complex is a large retail store in Tokyo spanning eight floors with manga comics, anime figures, video games, cosplay clothing, and collectibles. Each floor focuses on a different category, with many items being second-hand and carefully curated for fans and collectors.
The shop started as a small store for second-hand manga and grew into a multi-story complex due to rising demand for collectibles. This expansion reflects the rising importance of anime and manga culture in Japan over several decades.
The shop serves as a gathering place where fans share their enthusiasm for manga, anime, and collectible culture. Walking through the floors, you notice how visitors engage with items as cultural artifacts that represent their personal interests and memories.
The shop is open daily from noon to 8 pm and is about 6 minutes walk from Akihabara Station. Visiting early in the day helps you avoid crowds and gives you more time to browse comfortably.
Some sections of the store are restricted to adults, as they contain items for mature collectors. The shop also allows visitors to sell their own collections if they arrive before 7:30 pm, creating a two-way marketplace for enthusiasts.
