Akihabara UDX, Commercial skyscraper in Akihabara, Japan
Akihabara UDX is a commercial tower with 22 above-ground floors and 3 basement levels that sits within the Akihabara Crossfield development zone. The building combines retail spaces on lower floors with office areas above, creating a mixed-use center in the heart of the electronics district.
Construction began in August 2003 and the building opened to the public on March 9, 2006. This development was part of a larger urban renewal effort to modernize Akihabara's long-established electronics district.
The AKIBA ICHI retail floors showcase how Tokyo's electronics district has evolved into a mix of shops, eateries, and technology stores that draw both locals and travelers looking for the latest gadgets and trends.
The tower connects directly to Akihabara Station through seven train lines, making it easy to reach by public transport. Underground parking is available for those arriving by car or motorcycle, and the location puts you in the center of the shopping and entertainment district.
A massive video screen on the south side of the building broadcasts information and advertisements visible from the street below. The public plaza in front hosts weekend markets where vendors sell goods and the area comes alive with activity.
