Obergurgl-Hochgurgl
Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is a ski resort in the Tyrolean Alps consisting of two connected villages at high elevation between 1,800 meters (5,906 feet) and over 3,000 meters (9,843 feet). The area has roughly 112 kilometers (70 miles) of ski runs and 25 modern lifts serving skiers of all levels.
Obergurgl is one of Austria's oldest mountain villages with a long tradition as an Alpine settlement. Hochgurgl was developed later as a modern village for ski tourism, which explains the two very different village appearances today.
The two villages of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl have distinct characters that are visible when walking through them. Obergurgl centers on its old church and car-free streets that create a traditional, peaceful feeling, while Hochgurgl is a newer settlement built primarily for visitors with a more modern appearance.
Getting to the slopes is straightforward since lifts start directly from the villages, with minimal access complications. Hotels are located near the runs, usually less than a four minute walk away, so skiers can quickly get going each morning without extra travel.
The Top Mountain Star is a bar located at 3,030 meters (9,941 feet) with views toward the Dolomites and Otztal, an unexpected place for refreshment while skiing. From this height on clear days, visitors can see far beyond the surrounding peaks.
